In Noailles, 10km south of Brive. Exit 52 on the A20 motorway. Divided into two galleries, the La Fage chasm is known for its beautiful, colourful draperies, highly decorated calcite bridges, numerous stalactites, columns and unusual figures, and its palaeontological deposits. A listed NATURA 2000 site, it also houses one of the largest bat colonies in Europe. Facilities here include themed discovery routes, a sound and light show, a film on the life of the European bat and games for children (ages 4-12). Basic archaeology workshop for 7-12-year-olds. Open : daily, in July and August, 9.30am-1pm and 2-7pm; 01/04 to 30/06, 2-6pm (except Wednesday); 01/09 to 30/09, 2-6pm (except Wednesday). School holidays in early November, Tuesday and Thursday, 3pm. Open for groups by prior arrangement. Afternoon guided tours in July-August; non-guided visits of interpretation path available. Duration: 1hr. Photography permitted for non-guided visits. Free parking, picnic tables, bar, shop and snack bar in summer. Entrance fee. Free admission for children under 4.
