Many of Limousin's riverbeds are located here, on the Millevaches plateau (which comes from "Mille batz", meaning "one thousand streams".) The plateau's highest peak is Mount Bessou on the border of the mounts of Auvergne. The park is a nature lover's paradise, home to several "sensitive species" : otters, pearl mussels, brown trout, butterflies... It is also a stopover for migrating birds. Its heritage sites are remarkable : the Gallo-Roman "Les Cars" ruins, roadside crosses, museums in Tarnac, Meymac, Chamberet, Treignac...

Vassivière lake

1.000 hectares, 45 kilometrs of shores, 8 beaches, water sports, horseback riding, hiking... You can take a taxi boat, mini train or walk to the island, and discover Vassivière's scuplture park (France's second largest) and the International Art and landscape centre, a listed 21st century monument. Vassivière island lives to the rythm of its many events : exhibitions, concerts, storytelling festival, bread fair, just to name a few!
